You’re in good company! Welcome to the first post on our brand-new NakedCherry blog. Buckle up, buttercup, because we’re taking you on a wild ride through our origin story – from a tiny boutique in Parkhurst to an award-winning brand with salon locations across Jozi. It’s been one heck of a journey since we first opened our doors in 2012 with the sole focus of waxing.
We quickly shifted gears, spatula in the wax pot at the ready and off we went! Before we knew it, we had built a chain of waxing salon boutiques across Johannesburg (Cape Town and Durban, we’re coming for ya!). Not content to rest on our laurels, we started supplying local stockists and even crossed borders to find distributors across Africa.
And that’s not all, folks! Last year, we decided to pay it forward and train the next generation of smooth operators with all the skills they need to start their bump-free waxing journey. With a couple of awards already under our belt – including Professional Beauty’s Best Body Product/Wax Supplier in 2017 – our aim has always been the same: make waxing memorable for all the right reasons. Stick with us, and we’ll tell you how we did it!
Our Humble Beginnings as a Small Waxing Boutique
In 2012, we opened our first intimate waxing boutique in Johannesburg’s trendy Parkhurst neighborhood. Back then, we ran a cozy one-room salon at the back of a Sensual Boutique for couples (which, admittedly, was a perfect fit), dedicated to delivering top-notch waxing services for both men and women with the determination to build up a loyal client base through unparalleled skill and care.
Our Growth
Through word-of-mouth and our growing reputation, our client list quickly expanded. We moved into a bigger space and hired additional waxing enthusiasts. Franchise opportunities arose, allowing us to spread our waxing passion across Joburg. We now have nine (as of February 2024) bustling waxing salon boutiques, with our ambitious plans to expand into Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban this year.
Becoming Suppliers
As our business grew, salons and spas wanted to offer our brand of NakedCherry waxing to their clients. We began supplying waxing products and upskilling therapists around the country. We now have over 100 stockists scattered around South Africa, with interest growing from neighboring countries.
Training the Next Generation
Last year, we launched our Waxing Basic Training Program to teach aspiring waxologists our techniques. Students learn about hair growth, safety standards, and how to perform a perfect Brazilian wax, leg wax, or back wax. Upon completion, they’re fully qualified to start their own waxing business or work in one of our salons. And obviously, if they blow us away – we keep these cheerful cherries for ourselves! 😛
From a tiny studio to a national brand in just over a decade – it’s been an incredible journey. Our passion for premium waxing and dedication to our clients has allowed us to spread our waxing love across South Africa. The future looks smooth!
